NYU Professor Offers FREE Online “Writing the Scene” Course

Young Screenwriters Announces another free course from Professor John Warren

Warren offered a free course, “Writing the Short” back in March. Now, he’s opened another, “Writing the Scene”. Both courses are part of an initiative to help aspiring screenwriters during the global pandemic.

It’s part of the growing solidarity from the film industry and all those educators connected to it during this trying time. If you’re stuck in quarantine, and having a tough time with that scene, then this course is a win-win situation for you.

Writing the Scene is a free, self-paced online course. It’s only two hours, but the content is invaluable. It succinctly covers foundational and advanced-level strategies including:

  • insights into Professor Warren’s 40 year experience in writing the scene
  • analysis of scenes from Whiplash and Tootsie
  • the basic recipe or anatomy of a scene and formatting style
  • using the revision process to make the scene more readable and impactful

Not only do you receive this invaluable advice, but every student gets to submit a scene for personal feedback from Young Screenwriter’s feedback team.

You can sign up for Writing the Scene here.
