Nick Fury: Samuel L. Jackson Will Return In His Own Disney Plus Series

Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury for his very own TV series on Disney Plus. Jackson has appeared as Fury in the MCU in over ten movies in a supporting role. Now the charismatic Jackson will get his chance to headline. A show focused on Fury could provide some interesting background on S.H.E.I.L.D. and the Avengers that we don’t usually get to see. But Marvel Studios isn’t giving us any plot details just yet. According to Variety

“The exact plot details of the show are being kept under wraps, but multiple sources say Jackson is attached to star with Kyle Bradstreet attached to write and executive produce. Like all the other Marvel shows at Disney Plus, Marvel Studios will produce.”

Bradstreet is an interesting choice. He wrote and produced a number of episodes for Mr. Robot. So it’ll be interesting to see what he has planned for S.H.I.E.L.D.s boss. It seems likely his show will connect with the rest of the MCU, though it would be great to see an integration of some of the interesting–and wonderfully strange–storylines from the Sixties comic book series, Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. But, it seems, unlikely we’ll be seeing a prequel series about the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s a shame though. Jim Steranko wrote and drew the series, which read like a cross between James Bond and The Man From U.N. C.L.E.  Still, other comic book series focused on Nick Fury may form the basis for the series, or it may be a completely original storyline.

The Nick Fury series continues Kevin Feige’s mandate to dramatically expand the world-building of the MCU via Disney Plus. So far, the streaming service is lining up an impressive slate with WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLokiHawkeyeMs. MarvelMoon KnightShe-Hulk, and What If…? And this is just the beginning.
