Two ‘Making of the Snyder Cut’ Videos For You To Watch

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is dominating streaming platforms, holds the top spot on IMDB.com, and is as divisive among filmgoers as one expects. But if you were as mesmerized by Zack Snyder’s vision, as we were, then you might want to take a look at two ‘Making of’ videos that were released over the last few days.

The first video is a featurette released by HBO Max. Called Making of the Snyder Cut, the video features interviews with the core cast and the film’s director.

Henry Cavill notes Snyder’s strength as a visual filmmaker:

“Zack. He’s got such an incredible brain for the visual. He has everything planned out in his head before we get there. It’s remarkable to be apart of.”

Snyder’s cut of Justice League certainly has a different visual aesthetic to even 2017s theatrical release, which Joss Whedon largely reshot and cut together. And it certainly has a different aesthetic to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Embraced by Snyder fans, but hated by many DC fans, this version of Justice League is from a director who is uncompromising in his vision. For many, Zack Snyder’s Justice League elevates him to auteur status, even with some key influences from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Cavill’s comment also highlights Snyder’s general weakness with character development, though this is certainly not Cavill’s intention given his recent praise for Snyder and his cut of the film. In fact, Snyder uncharacteristically provided personal and emotional character arcs for Flash and, particularly, Cyborg, who forms the heart of this film.

Nonetheless, the visual effects are the main drawcard. The second ‘Making of’ video by Collider takes us through the film’s VFX with interviews with three VFX supervisors on the film: Weta Digital’s Visual Effects Supervisors Kevin Andrew Smith and Anders Langlands, plus Animation Supervisor Simeon Duncombe. Included in the discussion is how they created a new look for Steppenwolf, added Darkseid to the film, and changed the color palette back to Snyder’s vision for the film’s third act.

Check out the full interviews below:

In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad, and Darkseid, and their dreadful intentions.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is streaming on HBO Max and around the world on HBO-affiliated services and platforms.
