‘The Batman’ Wraps Up Principal Photography

Director Matt Reeves posted a photo of props and a clapper board on Twitter announcing the last day of filming on The Batman.

The Batman had a troubled production almost as soon as it began filming on Jan. 27, 2020. Almost three weeks later, production shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Then a crew member, Andrew Jack, passed away from the virus on April 1st.

The continued production shutdown resulted in the first release date pushback from June 2021 to October 2021.

Reeves released the first trailer on August 22, 2020, even though very little filming had taken place. Still, the trailer generated a lot of buzz with its moody tone, and great footage of Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of Colin Farrell, made-up and unrecognizable as The Penguin.

After filming resumed, Pattinson contracted Covid-19, and the production was forced to halt yet again. He recovered, and production resumed on September 17, 2020.

On October 5, 2020, Reeves announced the release date had been pushed back to March 4, 2022.

While principal photography has finished, Reeves will likely need to film pick-up shots and, possibly, some reshoots.
