Hayden Christensen Will Return as Anakin Skywalker in ‘Ahsoka’ Limited Series
According to Deadline, Hayden Christensen has been cast in Ahsoka, the limited Star Wars series starring Rosario Dawson as the title character. Those familiar with the animated series, The Clone Wars, know Ahsoka Tano as Anakin’s padawan. Ahsoka’s relationship with Anakin and her blossoming from an annoying teenager into a wise Jedi Master stands out as one of the best character evolutions in Star Wars.
Anakin helped shape her character and helped hone her into an independent, courageous, and unique Jedi knight. His presence in her life would influence her permanently. It was Anakin who gave her the white dual-lightsabers which is her trademark. And her decision to leave the Jedi Council served as an impetus for Anakin to turn to the Dark Side and become Darth Vader. Ultimately, their relationship turned into a tragic tale. Ahsoka and Anakin’s relationship has more depth than Anakin’s relationship with either Obi-Wan Kenobi or his son, Luke Skywalker.
With Christensen’s involvement, the live-action Ahsoka series ties together a lot of history from both the Prequel Trilogy and The Clone Wars. It will be interesting to see what impact Christensen’s Anakin has on Ahsoka moving forward. Christensen is currently shooting the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series with Ewan McGregor. Set in the years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Christensen will be playing Darth Vader and is expected to confront his old master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. We can assume Christensen won’t spend his entire time behind the mask, otherwise, a stand-in would have been used.
Christensen will be doing more facetime on Ahsoka as a Force Ghost and, perhaps, in flashbacks. Will the actor be finished with Star Wars after these two adventures? We certainly hope not. And considering his son Luke Skywalker was re-introduced in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, it would be a shame if father and son did not reunite. There’s a possibility Anakin will fulfill the function Obi-Wan and Yoda did in the Star Wars movies, and show as the Force Ghost mentor across the whole of Dave Filoni’s interconnected Disney + Star Wars universe.
