Method Studios did a phenomenal mix of CGI and live-action for Terminator: Dark Fate in which the heroes are pursued by the Rev-9 Terminator while stealing a C-5 military aircraft.
The sequence is complex involving the Rev-9 Terminator commandeering a helicopter that crashs, rolls, and explodes–all of which is done in CGI.
Below is Method’s VFX breakdown of the sequence, showing all the different layers of effects that went into creating the final polished sequence. The work was overseen by Method Studios’ visual effects supervisor Glenn Melenhorst under production VFX supervisor Eric Barba.
